Jerry Titus

Jerry Titus: I started in the drapery business in 1970 after I got out of the Army. I went to work for a workroom that specialized in high-end treatments. This company trained me to install and I was employed for two years. After working for this company I decided to open my own installation business and I installed for seven years before getting married. After I got married my wife and I started a workroom. My wife was a designer and there was a family member that knew how to make drapes and had a workroom so this made it easy to get work. We started as a small business and grew to eighteen employees with four designers. In addition, we also did work for forty designers. As our employees started to retire it became harder to hire new people so we decided close the workroom after twenty years of business. I then started installing commercial work only. I did work for some of the designers that we had worked for before, but ninety percent of my work is commercial. I have installed all over the world in the last thirty years.
I came to teach at the Academy, after attending a Conference with my wife as a vendor and over hearing someone ask a question about installation to Cheryl Strickland and answering that question for this person. Cheryl was so impressed that she talked to me about coming to teach at the school . After teaching 101 and 102 every other class, Beth Hodges decided to teach Installation 101 and I taught one day of the installation 101 which consists of hard treatments and commercial track installation and exclusively taught Installation 102.
